Barcelos Restaurant ‘Mouthwatering Flavours from Portugal’

Portuguese cuisine is characterised by its use of a wide variety of herbs and spices, which should come as no surprise since it was the Portuguese who introduced pepper, saffron, ginger and coriander to Europe, making its food very different from the nearby Mediterranean countries. It is, of course, not so well known as other leading cuisines such as Italian, Indian, Thai and Chinese:

in fact, in many ways it could be described as one of the world’s best kept culinary secrets. However, residents and visitors to Dubai can now experience the amazing flavours of Portugal in the region’s most celebrated Portuguese restaurant brand – Barcelos.

First ParagraphBarcelos is named after a charming and picturesque Portuguese town that is famous for the ancient legend of the Barcelos rooster. The modern story, though, begins with one solitary restaurant that opened in Pretoria, South Africa, in 1993. Using recipes mastered by the Portuguese hundreds of years ago, its flavours became so popular that it began to create franchised outlets in 1998, and today has over 100 restaurants in 11 countries.

Third ParagraphThe first Dubai-based Barcelos was opened two-and-a-half years ago on Sheikh Zayed Road, and a second has recently been launched in Ibn Battuta Mall. As Marketing Manager Mr. Prabhu Bose explains: “This is a very exciting time for us, with the expansion of the Barcelos brand in Dubai having been made all the easier thanks to our association with Al Halabi. They have been fantastic to work with, setting up the entire kitchen in our outlet in Ibn Battuta Mall, including everything from walk-in freezers to grills. We will certainly work with Al Halabi again.”

Forth ParagraphHaving found a perfect balance between traditional, healthy cuisine and the fast pace of the modern world, Barcelos restaurants specialise in serving spicy, flame grilled chicken, prepared as authentically as it was when mastered by the ancient Portuguese chefs. There are also such culinary delights on the menu as beef schwarma pitas, Portuguese garden salad, a number of vegetarian options, and a whole range of extras and drinks.

Portuguese cuisine is unlike any other, and at the heart of it is the use of quality ingredients prepared simply to preserve their distinctive flavours. It is, as the Portuguese say, ‘simplesmente delicioso’!
